Thanks to the generous donations at the swap meet this year we are finally getting a major facelift for our website. Over the next few weeks you will see some major changes on line. Our plan is to impliment a newer much more user friendly bulletin board system and photo gallery. This new system will also integrate with Facebook. Pyrobilia is now on Facebook for those who care to join. This is the biggest change our site has seen in many years. Please check back frequently for updates on the new changes and I'll send out a notice when we are complete.

Advanced Technique Fireworks Demo 2010

Advanced Technique Fireworks
Thunder Before Thunder 9-Campbellsburg, KY
Product Demo-April 15th & 16th 2010

Last week, I was delighted to attend the Advanced Technique Fireworks demo “Thunder Before Thunder 9”. Thursday night was the 1.4g Consumer (Class C) demo and Friday was the 1.3g Display (Class B) demo. I made many observations of the products and assigned a rating for each item. In order to be objective, remember that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. In my review you will find that I list no items that I rank below a 7 on a scale of 1-10. A shell or cake that is ranked a 7 is a very good item. Ranks of 9 or 10 are reserved for only the highest grade of product, and I don’t give out 10’s very often. I have my own likes and dislikes in regards to fireworks. In order to be fair about the whole thing, I will list off my own prejudices:

Swap Meet 2009

Finally a swap meet! I have a room rented and am making plans for a spring swap meet south of Indianapolis. The date is Friday and Saturday May, 15th and 16th. The location is south of Franklin, Indiana at the Johnson County Park on the grounds of Camp Atterbury. We will have setup time on Friday evening followed by a trip to a local watering hole. On Saturday we will open at 9AM and break for lunch. After lunch we will have a fund-raiser auction to benefit the new changes coming to the site. The swap meet will continue until 5PM. I need to get permission to have a shoot that night so tentatively we will travel to a near-by shoot site and have open shooting from 7-10PM. I will post information about lodging this week. I can offer a shuttle service to and from the Indianapolis Airport for those flying. Shipping will be available for those traveling by air. I will have a google map up in the next week to map out your trip.

I need some help raising funds to have the swap meet and shoot on Saturday night. I figure we need to raise about $500 to support the swap meet. The more donations we have the more activities we can offer. Please donate by clicking the Donation button on the home page. Also I would ask that all those attending donate at least one item for the auction; small or large it all goes to benefit the club. For more information please send a message to me at: allred@pyrobilia.com

Winter 2008

Greetings from Pyrobilia,

The site has gone through some changes over the past week including a major upgrade to our Auction software. Please take the time to view the auctions and notice that there are new items up for sale. These are fund raising auctions to support our activities for our upcoming swap meet this spring and the Midwest Fireworks Festival in the fall. Your participation is greatly appreciated. Here is an outline of some of the major changes for 2008:

? Our new membership drive has started and is retroactive to July, 2007. Make a small donation and support our site!
? We now offer store fronts for a one year period. You can now have a 10 item store for free! A 100 item store is a flat rate of $50/yr. (That’s $4/Month)
? All auctions will continue to be free of charge.
? There will be a swap meet this spring probably the week of 5/10 or 5/17. I will post the directions and final date on the home page.
? We are making plans to participate in the Midwest Fireworks Festival in the fall with another mini “Superstring” of crackers.
? Upgrades both the Auction and Home page will continue throughout the year.
? You can now advertise your Items Wanted on the Auction via our new software package.
? There are some new photos on the home page along with some new topics of discussion.

Remember that this is a fully interactive site. The home page is designed to function with your input. We welcome new topics of discussion, photos, articles, reviews of fireworks etc. Please come and visit soon. Let me know if you have special requests for content or Auctions and don’t be shy. I am currently looking for authors of new news articles so if you have an idea please contact me. I can be reached directly at: allred@pyrobilia.com.

I look forward to your visit,

China Nanjing Tested 2008 Olympic Fireworks

There will be a fantastic fireworks display on the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Sport Games. Thereinto, probably there is a fireworks effect of Five-ring Olympic will appear with single shell at that time. Nanjing University of Science & Technology and Liuyang Municipal Government have been jointly researching this effect, now, the success rate is over 90% and the effect was tested on Feb. 28 in Nanjing city (The capital of Jiangsu province).
Considering the black effect can't be seen in the evening, we'll use purple to replace it. The colors will be red, green, purple, yellow and blue.
-Fantasy Packs- How It All Began
My interest in collecting firecracker packs started in the late 80’s. Prior to that, I was just reliving some of my early childhood days by purchasing class ‘C’ fireworks such as firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets, fountains, multi shot repeaters and anything else that made noise. It was at this time that I realized reliving my childhood days was not as cheap as it used to be. Well, that started me shopping around for the best deals in nearby states.

World's Best Collectable?

MY TOTALLY UNBIASED OPINIONS AS TO WHY FIRECRACKERS ARE THE WORLD'S BEST COLLECTABLES!

By Hal Kantrud!
Good collectables are of the people, by the people, and for the people. By this definition, coins, paper money, postage stamps, stock certificates, and the like fail as collectables because they are not products of the general public, but of corporations or governments. Gemstones, nuggets, and other natural treasures are eliminated as good collectables by their scarcity as well as their cost. The same goes for the one-of-a-kind, artificial treasures we call works of art. Some fossils, artifacts, meteorites, minerals, and other hard evidence of earlier ages are not costly, but they are also not popular and thus not good collectables. They are relics and belong in museums for all to enjoy.
